BDT Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin took part in Ericsson's UnBoxed Office Social Series and discussed the value of connectivity, along with Ericsson CTO Erik Ekudden.
Ms Bogdan-Martin urged taking a people-centered approach to expand connectivity— one that that considers the ''human element of connectivity''. Beyond putting in place infrastructure, meaningful connectivity will entail ensuring that people receive digital skills and appropriate digital content to adopt and leverage technology in their lives.
She also noted that the 2021 State of Broadband report demonstrates the need for ''concerted efforts'' between different stakeholders to work together to connect the 3.7 billion people who remain offline. Although progress has been made, much work remains.
''There are huge opportunities here. If the global community can come together, we really can leverage broadband and high-speed digital infrastructure to make dramatic progress for the world,'' said Ms Bogdan-Martin.
