BDT Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin addressed the Financial Inclusion Global Initiative Symposium 2021, in a session on ''The impact of COVID on financial inclusion.''
She observed that ''digital financial platforms are pushing forward the frontiers of economic inclusion.''' More people around the world are gaining access to banking, insurance and other financial services, as COVID has accelerated digital transformation and a pivot to digital finance. At the same time, those that do not have the ability to connect or the skills to use digital services, are being left behind.
Ms Bodgan-Martin stated that Digital Financial Services ''can be a powerful driver of development – but we urgently need to put them within reach of the people who need them, and find ways to empower those people to use these transformational services safely, and productively, to improve their own lives, and the lives of their families and communities.''
