Her Excellency Mrs Vassiliki Anastasiadou, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works
Mr George Michaellides, Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation
Ladies and Gentlemen;
It is indeed my great pleasure to be here today to launch the National Computer Security Incident Response Team of the Republic of Cyprus, known as CSIRT-CY
Excellency Minister Anastassiadou, the CSIRT-Cyprus is in line with your visionary leadership and the commitment of Commissioner Michaellides.
The CSIRT-Cyprus will enhance the cybersecurity of Cyprus and contribute to the efficient handling of cyber-incidents at the national, regional and global levels.
I am confident that the CSIRT-Cyprus will rapidly become a Regional reference for cybersecurity.
It will certainly strengthen the position of Cyprus in the international efforts to build a secured cyberspace.
As Director of ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau, I am happy to be associated, Mme Minister, with your vision and commitment of protecting the world.
Today, more than half of the world population is using the internet.
We must protect them and make sure that the other half get connected.
Our mission through the CSIRT Cyprus goes beyond technical issues. It is part of the global move to make this world a better place to live in, for us and the future generations.
It is through a secured cyberspace that ICTs will be able to accelerate the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
I am particularly happy to note that Cyprus will host the 2018 Regional Cyberdrill for Europe in November. Thank you very much Commissioner Michaellides for accepting the host this regional event.
As we inaugurate the CSIRT Cyprus, work is just beginning.
Let's get down to work and make things happen.
I thank you.
