Report on National CIRT handed over to the Principality of Monaco

On 20 February, the Director handed over the report on the Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) to Mr. Michel Roger, minister d'État (PrimeMinister) of Monaco. The report on the establishment of CIRT - Rapport sur la Mission d'expertise en matière de sécurité numérique - is the product of two-years' work between ITU and Monaco on improving cybersecurity in the Principality. The role of a national CIRT is to identify, defend, respond and manage cyber threats in order to enhance a culture of cybersecurity at national level and reduce the risks posed by criminal and illegal use of ICTs.

The framework of a fully organized and operational CIRT model is beginning to be adopted by many national governments in their national information security master plan or equivalent.

A fundamental role of ITU, following the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the 2010 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (specifically Resolution 1301), is to build confidence and security in the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). Heads of state and government and other global leaders participating in WSIS, as well as ITU Member States, entrusted ITU to take concrete steps towards curbing the threats and insecurities related to the Information Society.
