    Promoting broadband connectivity in remote areas of Palestine: new agreement signed

    Dubai, UAE, 30 March – A new agreement, launching the second phase of the Connect a School, Connect a Community project,  was signed today by Mr. Brahima Sanou, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau and H.E. Dr. Safa Nasser Eldin, Minister of Telecommunications & Information Technology of Palestine.

    During the first phase of the project, which started in 2013, five schools were connected to broadband Internet services. A total of 1500 children benefited from this initiative.

     "The goal of the second phase is to connect ten additional schools, located in remote, rural or underserved areas of the State of Palestine to broadband Internet services," said Sanou. "The main objective of the Connect a School project is to improve ICT access and use by school children, and by members of the local community, including disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, such as women and girls, indigenous and rural people, older persons and persons with disabilities.

     In order to address the local needs of the communities, to improve the quality of life for members of the targeted local community, and to further ensure project sustainability, this project will also help develop training materials and provide related training. 

    The second phase of the Connect a School, Connect a Community project was launched with the support of the United Arab Emirates.
