    WTDC Outcomes Briefing for Ambassadors

After the successful World Telecommunication Development Conference 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda, BDT Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin briefed Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the UN in Geneva on the outcomes of the Conference.

The outcomes of WTDC-22 shapes BDT's work to close the digital divide, and is important to all countries as they shape their national digital transformation strategies and agendas. Ms Bogdan-Martin noted that WTDC-22 was characterized by an impressive level of willingness on the part of delegates to find consensus on even the most difficult of issues.

She detailed many of the reasons that this WTDC brought many ''firsts'', including that: it was the first WTDC to be held on the African continent, it featured the first UN pledging conference for connectivity (through the Partner2Connect Digital Development Roundtable), it was preceded by the first Generation Connect Global Youth Summit, and it included the first Network of Women for ITU-D programme.

Ms Bogdan-Martin stated, ''the concrete outcomes from WTDC-22 pave the way forward for the international community, including the broader UN system, to tap into connectivity and digital technologies as powerful means to transform societies, achieve the 17 SDGs, and help people improve their lives.''
