Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between Remote Participation and normal webcast services?
Webcast services are available for those who just wish to listen to the meeting in any of the language channels supported  during the event.
Remote participation is a service that allows interaction from a remote location. It provides the opportunity to ask questions, make presentations and chat with other remote attendees.

2. How can I participate actively as a remote delegate?
A remote delegate who simply wants to listen and chat to other remote delegates can log in to the online meeting room and listen through the computer speakers.
However, if you wish to take the floor or present content, you must join the teleconference. Those wishing to intervene are kindly requested to contact the Remote Participation team well in advance so that software training can be provided.

3. Do I need to install any special software to participate in a virtual Adobe Connect room?
No, you can connect via your web browser. On the other hand, you must be connected to the teleconference on your fixed landline phone (this connection is free of charge to the user) should you wish to intervene. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player.

4. How will I find the correct Adobe Connect room for the session that I wish to attend?
A few days before the meeting starts, registered delegates will receive an invitation providing details like the meeting URL, user name and password.

5. What if I do not remember my password?
In case you do not remember the password linked to your account, click on "Forgot my password" (located just below the password field). The password will then be sent to the email set as your login.

6. How do I listen to the audio channel?
When entering the Adobe Connect room, the Floor channel will stream through your computer speakers.
If you wish to make use of interpretation, you need to join the teleconference. The audio feed will then be transmitted through the phone line.

7. How do I make an intervention?
If you wish to put forward an opinion or ask a question orally, you'll need to have joined the teleconference via landline. You can then use the "Raise Hand" function to indicate that you would like to take the floor. Once the Chairman gives you the floor you will be unmuted and you will hear a recorded voice asking you to intervene.
To avoid audio feedbacks, please make sure your computer speakers are turned off before making your intervention.

8. How do I  test my connection?
If you are experiencing a troubleshooting connection it is worth checking its status. You simply need to click on the green button on the top right of the Adobe Connect room.
If you wish to know whether your computer fulfills all the requirements to use Adobe Connect, you might also click on the option "Help" on the top right side of the Adobe Connect room and choose troubleshooting.
A third option is going through the Adobe Connect test.

9. Which file types are supported by Adobe Connect?
Adobe Connect allows to share the following file types: .ppt, .pptx, .pdf, .mp3, .jpeg, .flv and .swf.
This question only concerns remote presenters. You may ask the online meeting host to upload documents that will be shown during your intervention (this needs to be done well in advance so that the Remote Participation team can make sure your presentation is available for all attendees).

10. Is interpretation provided for remote participants?
Interpretation is provided for certain meetings according to the meeting organizer's needs and requests. If it is available, you can make an oral intervention in any language for which interpretation is provided.

11. Are the meetings recorded?
Some sessions are recorded and available at the end of the meeting. If you wish to have access to the archived meeting sessions and recordings that are not available on the web, please submit a request to remote.participation@itu.int .

12. Can presentations be downloaded from Adobe Connect?
Presentations of any file type cannot be directly downloaded from the Adobe Connect room. Delegates can ask presenters to provide them with the shared documents.

13. Who do I contact prior to the meeting for any questions concerning remote participation?
You can send an email to the following address: remote.participation@itu.int and we will answer to any questions that you might have.
