ITU-T SG 16
ITU-T is the sector of the International
Telecommunications Union responsible for standardization in telecommunications.
Its Study Group 16 (Multimedia coding, systems and applications) is the
technical committee responsible for studies relating to multimedia service
definition and multimedia systems, including the associated terminals, modems,
protocols and signal processing. Its Question 28/16 (Multimedia framework for
e-health applications) is the focal point for studies related to e-health
standardization.
ITU-D SG 2
ITU-D is the sector of the International
Telecommunication Union responsible for development of telecommunications. Its
Study Group 2 is dealing with development and management of telecommunication
services and networks. Its question 14-1/2 (Application of telecommunications
in health care) is the focal point for e-health studies in developing countries
with emphasize on users requirements, model project design and selecting and
disseminating best practice in this field.
The World Health Organization is the United
Nations specialized agency for health. WHO's objective, as set out in its
Constitution, is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of
health. In recognition of the important role that ICT plays in the health
sector, a number of actions have recently been undertaken to leverage the
emergence of e-Health for strengthening health systems in countries, including
the development of special initiatives, creation of technical units and
preparation of an overarching strategy for e-Health. Promoting norms and
standardization for the exchange of information and knowledge for better health
is an important area of activity in e-Health.
ISO/TC 215
ISO TC 215 (Health Informatics) is a technical
committee of the International Standards Organization that is engaged in
standardization in the field of information for health, of technologies to
achieve compatibility and interoperability between independent health
information systems, and to ensure the safety of patients. TC 215 also
standardizes compatibility of data for comparative statistical purpose (for
example, classifications) and to reduce duplication of effort and redundancies.
CEN/TC 251
CEN/TC 251 is the Health Informatics
committee of Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN), which is the federation of
national standards bodies of the 25 European Union countries plus Switzerland,
Iceland and Norway. CEN/TC 251 develops standards for electronic health
records, messages, security,
knowledge representation and medical device communication.
IEEE 1073
The IEEE P1073 committee produces standards
that provide real-time plug-and-play interoperability for patient-connected
medical devices and external computer systems. The standards provide for
automatic and detailed electronic data capture of vital signs and medical
device data, acquired at the point-of-care, in all health care environments.
HL7
Health Level Seven, an American National
Standard Institute accredited standards development organization, exists to
provide a comprehensive framework and protocol specifications for the
interchange, integration, storage and retrieval of health information to
support clinical practices and the management, delivery and evaluation of
health services. HL7 endeavors to create flexible, cost effective approaches,
standards, guidelines, methodologies, and related services for interoperability
between healthcare information systems and management of electronic health
records.
DICOM
The DICOM Standards Committee exists to
create and maintain international standards for communication of biomedical
diagnostic and therapeutic information in disciplines that use digital images
and associated data. The goals of DICOM are to achieve compatibility and to
improve workflow efficiency between imaging systems and other information
systems in healthcare environments worldwide.
OASIS IHC TC
OASIS is a not-for-profit, international
consortium that drives the development, convergence, and adoption of e-business
standards. Its IHC Technical Committe aims at providing a forum for the global
healthcare community to articulate and coordinate requirements for XML- and Web
services-based standards.
GS1
GS1 is an organisation dedicated to
improving the efficiency and visibility of supply and demand chains, globally
and across sectors. Our diversified portfolio of products, solutions and
technologies includes the GS1 System of standards (the most widely used
standards system in the world) as well as GS1 BarCodes, GS1 eCom, GS1 GDSN, EPCglobal
and Traceability. GS1 also offers a wide range of services, including training,
certification, technical support, and implementation advice.
