14th Symposium on ICT, Environment, Climate Change and Circular Economy

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), together with the Ministry of Economic Development, Italy and the University of Rome Tor Vergata organized the 14th Symposium on ICT, Environment, Climate Change and Circular Economy, which took place on 25 October 2022 in Rome, Italy. The theme of this year's Symposium was "Sustainable Digital Transformation: The Role of ICTs and Digital Technologies in Achieving Net Zero Carbon".

COP27 underscored how now, more than ever, there is a need for climate action and sustainable development. Digital technologies contribute in many ways to solving the world's most pressing challenges, including climate change and biodiversity loss. This Symposium will highlight how information and communication technology (ICT) and digital technology play a critical role in enabling innovative solutions to drive sustainable digital transformation globally.

This Symposium was collocated with the​ ITU-T Study Group 5: Environment, EMF and Circular Economy meeting which will take place from 17 to 27 October 2022. 

Objectives
The Symposium brought together leading specialists in the ICT sector, top policymakers, engineers, designers, planners, regulators, academia, standards experts and other key stakeholders shared their expertise and jointly discussed the role of ICTs and digital technologies in achieving net zero carbon. 

Target audience
This Symposium was open to all. Participation was free of charge.
