ICT Innovation: IoT and AI
The future will see large parts of our lives transformed by digital/digitization. ICT innovation influenced by Internet of Things (IoT), 5G and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies takes an important role for driving digital transformation. The TSB Director will introduce the emerging trends and the central role of ICT innovation in the digital transformation. He will also present how ITU will provide a neutral platform for government, industry and academia to build a common understanding of the capabilities of emerging 5G and AI as well as IoT technologies and consequent needs for technical standardization and policy guidance.

Session 1: IoT Standardization Collaboration
In this session, representatives from standards developing organizations (SDOs) Alliances/initiatives will highlight the work undertaken on IoT and discuss the importance of standards, focusing on how standards efforts help addressing critical needs. In addition, the participants will debate on how SDOs Alliances/initiatives could engage in the process of solving any IoT standardization applied within and across application domains.

Thanks to the central role of communications in many IoT deployments, how companies create value is often a function of the interaction between sensor technology and the network layer. Linking new and legacy sensors within an IoT ecosystem often means that companies seeking to realize value from the IoT need to work closely with their communication services providers. In this session, representatives from Telcos and equipement providers will Explains the benefits and shortcomings of IoT, analyze how the IoT ecosystem is being using in a number of industries and examine IoT best practices and the potential benefits for all stakeholders.

In this session, policy makers and representatives from regulatory bodies and teclos will examine the implications of IoT for individuals, businesses and societies, and particularly the issues that regulators will need to consider as IoT systems proliferate in developed and developing economies In addition, the participants will discuss the opportunities enabled by IoT for SMEs as well as the business drivers and challenges.
