As the world continues to embrace technology in every aspect of our lives, from phones to smart devices, there is growing attention around the effects of EMFs on human health.
The International Telecommunication Union organized a virtual forum on
Human Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) due to digital technologies which took place on 10 May 2021 from 10h00 to 13h00 CEST.
Using electromagnetic fields (EMF) wisely makes our connected devices and systems work most efficiently, produces the lowest EMF and delivers vital infrastructure for communities. Without EMF, everyday life as we know it would not exist. This forum explored how digital technologies form the backbone of a smart sustainable society, and how to use EMF in the most efficient manner. It provided a platform to present key ITU-T standards on this topic that can provide guidance to assess, evaluate and monitor human exposure of EMFs.
Participation in the virtual forum was open to all interested stakeholders including leading specialists in the field, from top policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts, ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to any individual from a country that is a member of ITU and who wishes to contribute to the work. This includes individuals who are also members of international, regional and national organizations. Participation was free of charge.
