Summary: Recommendation L.methodology_RM will describe a methodology to assess the impact of ICT organizations from their operation on rare metals such as Gold, Silver, Rare Earths and the Platinum Group metals. This methodology will help ICT organizations to assess different kind of risks associated with the rare metals: economic, shortage of supply, image and reputation. The output of the work will be a Recommendation on methodology to assess the impact on rare metals of ICT organizations from their operation. This work item deals with the development of a methodology to assess the impact of ICT organizations, from their operation, on rare metals such as, Gold, Silver, Rare Earths and the Platinum Group metals.. It will help them identify the risks associated with rare metals: economic, shortage of supply, image and reputation. The work will include investigation of potential existing developments on the assessment of the impact of organisations, from their operation, on rare metals by other SDOs, for instance by the IEC. The methodology may cover quantitative and qualitative aspects. The quantitative aspects may include for instance the selection of key equipment bought, used or sold by the ICT organisation, an analysis of the metal content of selected equipment and an assessment of criticality of different metals for the organisation. The methodology may include a quantification of the fluxes of metals used by the ICT organisation and a presentation of criticality analysis shown in a matrix. The qualitative aspects may include recommended description of indicators and questionnaires, for instance intended for suppliers.
