Abstract :

Further to the discussions on preparation for PP-26 during the ITU Council in April 2026, the secretariat has been closely monitoring and assessing security developments in the region, in close cooperation with the Host Country and the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS).
The secretariat committed to undertaking a review of the situation four months before the Conference. In light of the foregoing, and due to questions raised with the secretariat by a number of Member States, the Chair has decided to convene an extraordinary session of the Council on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
This report presents an assessment of the situation and outlines options for the forthcoming PP-26.
