This joint research provides valuable insights into the key lessons learned from telecentres and community networks, with the aim of informing future initiatives such as Smart Villages and Smart Islands, while also developing a framework to assess their sustainability. Through a comprehensive review of telecentre and community network initiatives, the research examines sustainability across six key dimensions: financial, socio-cultural, organisational, operational, policy, and environmental sustainability. The study analyses ten telecentre and community network case studies from India, Indonesia, Kiribati, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, and Vanuatu, applying these sustainability dimensions to generate practical insights and recommendations for building more inclusive and sustainable digital communities.
