iCP was launched in 2017 by setting up a data network to support IoT connectivity, along with a
data hub to collect and process the data. The vast amount of data collected is used to monitor a
variety of measures in the city and is analysed and visualized to plan smart solutions, such as the
further deployment of tools including SmartPanel screens and the new Pocket SmartPanel app,
which provide travellers real-time travel and city information.

Since then, low-power, long-range networks, such as LoraWAN and Sigfox have been deployed
to facilitate faster and more reliable data flow from the sensors.

Figure 8 illustrates the key concepts behind the working of the iCP.
