The initiative aims to explore how AI can be effectively used in disaster management, providing expert guidance and support for research, innovation, and the development of standards.Building on previous work, the initiative leverages the outcomes of the ITU/WMO/UNEP Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Natural Disaster Management (FG-AI4NDM).

Global Initiative workshop on “AI in disaster resilience: Bridging science, standards and innovation" will take place in Geneva, Palexpo (international exhibition and convention venue) on 7 July 2026 in the morning, and will be held in conjunction with the 4th Meeting of the Global Initiative on Resilience to Natural Hazards through AI Solutions on 7 July 2026 in the afternoon at the same venue
The Global Initiative has nine expert-driven working groups that are responsible for contributing to the standards landscape in this domain.
