JOHNSON Malcolm


Malcolm Johnson was elected Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Bureau at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in 2006 in Antalya, Turkey and was re-elected at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2010 in Guadalajara, Mexico. During his tenure ITU-T has increased its activity in relation to cybersecurity, climate change and accessibility to ICTs for persons with disabilities. Malcolm Johnson has greatly increased the involvement of developing countries in ITU’s standards activities and initiated the involvement of universities and research institutes. He introduced the free downloading of ITU-T standards and initiated a programme to address the major concerns of developing countries over the lack of interoperability and conformity to ITU standards.
