Dr. Trowbridge is Chairman of ITU-T Study Group 15 which is responsible for Networks, Technologies and Infrastructures for Transport, Access and Home. Dr. Trowbridge first joined Bell Laboratories over 30 years ago, and is currently part of the standards management group for the optics business unit of Alcatel-Lucent, where he has been involved in several standards organizations for the last 18 years. He chairs the ATIS COAST-OHI subcommittee. He was chairman of ITU-T WP3/15 from 2001-2012 and Rapporteur of ITU-T Q9/15 from 1996-2000. He was chairman of ITU-T WP3/15 TSAG from 2004-2008 and a vice-chairman of ITU-T TSAG from 2009-2012.
He is active in IEEE 802.3, having been a member of the IEEE 802.3ba editorial team during the standardization of 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s Ethernet, and was editor of the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) Multi-link Gearbox (MLG) Implementation Agreement. He holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder (BS 1976, MS 1977, Ph.D.1979)
