The
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized a
Workshop on “Security and Privacy for Digital Twin and Metaverse” that took place on
11 April 2025, 1400-1800 hours CEST at
ITU Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. This Workshop was held in conjunction with sessions of Question 6/17 “Security for telecommunication services, Internet of Things (IoT), digital twin, and metaverse” during the ITU-T SG17 meeting on 8-17 April 2025.
As identified in the pre-standardization work of the ITU-T Focus Group on metaverse (FG-MV) security and privacy concerns related to digital twins and metaverse include: privacy leaks, eavesdropping, unauthorized access, phishing, data injection, authentication failures, and insecure design. Addressing these concerns requires key measures to be implemented.
The objectives of the Workshop were, not limited to:
Review the deliverables from ITU-T FG-MV and identify items requiring further study by SG17;
Provide an overview on security and privacy concerns of digital twins and metaverse including relevant use cases;
Identify gaps in standardization on security and privacy controls as a basis for future work;
Share the ongoing security activities among the related study groups and other organizations;
Target Audience
Participation in the Workshop was open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions, as well as to any individual from a country that is a member of ITU who wishes to contribute to the work. Participation was free of charge. Remote participation was provided.
