Deputy Permanent Representative to the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations in New York since 2019

Hans-Joachim Almoslechner started his career at the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2000 as desk officer during Austria’s OSCE Chairmanship. From 2001-2002 he was desk officer at the Department for EU Coordination at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs followed by a posting as Attaché at the Austrian Embassy in London, UK in 2002. From 2002-2003 he was Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Austria to the UN, IAEA, CTBTO PrepCom and other International Organizations, Vienna, responsible for UNODC matters and from 2003-2006 working at the Office of the Secretary General at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In 2006 he was posted to the Austrian Embassy to the Holy See, where he was Deputy Chief of Mission until 2009 followed by a posting to the Austrian Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, as Deputy Chief of Mission until 2014. Back in Austria he held the position of Head of Unit for EU coordination at the Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs from 2014-2016 and Deputy Head of the Department for EU Coordination from 2016-2018. Subsequently he was seconded to the Austrian Federal Chancellery as Deputy Head of EU Coordination until 2019.

Hans-Joachim Almoslechner holds a Master’s degree from University of Vienna Law Faculty. His mother tongue is German and he speaks English, French and Italian.
