Biographies

Assoc. Prof. AbdEl-Monem El-Sharkawy is the chairman of the National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID) at the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). Dr. El-Sharkawy is also an associate professor at the Systems and Biomedical Engineering (SBME) department, Cairo university. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in SBME, from Cairo University, Egypt. He also received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer engineering from Johns Hopkins University (JHU), MD, USA. Dr. El-Sharkawy is an established scientist co-authoring tens of peer reviewed scientific journal papers, conference presentations and articles as well as three US published patents. Dr. El-Sharkawy instituted NAID’s excellence centre of assistive technology (ECAT) to support research, development and entrepreneurship in this domain towards enabling the assistive technology industry in Egypt. Dr. El-Sharkawy has around 25 years of experience in technology spanning academia, industry, and relevant managerial positions
