The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have established a Joint Smart Cities Task Force to co-ordinate international standardization for smart cities in line with the sustainable development goal 11 (SDG11) “Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”. The Joint Task Force leads a comprehensive dialogue by engaging relevant stakeholders in identifying standardization solutions for smart cities.

Mandate and scope of the IEC-ISO-ITU Joint Smart Cities Task Force (J-SCTF)
- To build synergies and to promote minimization of overlap as applicable on ongoing works in ITU-T, IEC and ISO related to smart cities and communities;
- To maximize efforts in order to identify new areas of cooperation related to smart cities and communities;
- To develop a holistic view on smart cities and communities taking into consideration the scope, areas of work and expertise of ITU-T, IEC and ISO to support smart cities and communities’ development;
- To prioritize future items that may arise from future World Smart City Forum (WSCF)
- ITU-T, ISO and IEC should designate the experts to work on the action items identified as priority by the Task Force;
