Summary: An application (App) is required to have a corresponding privacy policy, which is a document or text that states how the App collects and processes personal information. Additionally, the application shop requires App developers to have the corresponding privacy policy before publishing an App. In this way, the application shop can check whether the App usage data is consistent with its privacy policy. Some systems and frameworks exist, that check the consistency between App usage data and its privacy policy in industry and academia. However, even if they help verify the consistency between App usage data and its privacy policy from different angles, it does not do so from a holistic perspective. Thus, it is difficult for the industry to adopt them in practice. This Recommendation defines a reference architecture based on AI to automatically verify whether App usage data is consistent with its privacy policy. In this way, users could quickly understand App usage data purposes stated in the App’s lengthy privacy policy and check whether App usage data is consistent with the purposes stated in its policy. It also enables application shops to automatically verify whether App usage data is consistent with its privacy policy.
