Summary:
|
This Recommendation provides a framework for user-intent-based storage protection (USP) against malware attacks, which can distinguish whether data is being accessed by a user or by malware. The framework consists of a USP server and USP clients.
The USP server functions as a WORM (Write Once Read Many) file server that always permits new file creation requests from the host, but serves existing stored files as either read-only or read-write depending on the user's intent. When a user attempts to open a file in a file manager or an application, the USP server converts the file in storage into a read-only file and then provides it. However, when a user opens a file with intent for editing, the file is provided with read-write attributes.
