Summary: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology with the potential to revolutionize economies, industries, and societies worldwide. Recognizing its significance, member states are increasingly incorporating AI principles within their national policies, plans, and strategies to harness its benefits. However, the development of such strategies can be complex and challenging, requiring a comprehensive framework that addresses various dimensions of AI in telecommunication/ICT policy and strategy development. This contribution is a proposal for the development of guidelines to assist member states in formulating comprehensive and impactful national telecommunication/ICT policies, plans, and strategies that incorporate AI’s impact on the telecommunication/ICT sector, in line with ITU-T SG3’s focus on international telecommunication/ICT economic and policy issues and ITU PP-22 Resolution 214.
