Summary: The thermal environment of the DC is the key to ensuring the safe, stable and continuous operation of the equipment and is directly related to the energy consumption of the air conditioning system, which is a comprehensive embodiment of the heat exchange performance of the entire DC. Therefore, a precise and correct evaluation of the thermal environment of the DC is particularly important. However, there is currently a contradiction between a lack of standardization on a specific description of the thermal performance from a quantitative aspect and the emergence and development of varieties of evaluation indicators from experimental, theoretical, and numerical investigation efforts. And hence this Recommendation aims to address this issue. This recommendation presents an evaluation indicator system for the thermal environment of Internet Data Centers (IDCs) which is organized from four levels: room-level, row-level, rack-level, and server-level. Based on these discussions, further development and research on the evaluation specification of the thermal environment evaluation indicator system for IDCs is necessary within ITU-T SG5. Depending on contributions received, the Recommendation may be split in more work items in the future.
