Summary: Submarine scientific sensing activities including the measurement of temperature, pressure, vibration, acceleration, salinity, etc, are important for climate monitoring and disaster risk reduction. Dedicated submarine cable sensing systems have been constructed around the world. Recommendation ITU-T G.9730.1 is concerned with the dedicated submarine cable system for scientific sensing applications. It covers the aspects related to submarine cable system architecture, functional blocks, interfaces between various set of sensors and optical fibre submarine cable
