Summary: Microwave radio systems are available for use in telecommunication networks. Examples applications are given in this Supplement include: high-capacity backbone networks, SDH network systems, use in enterprise networks and mobile back-haul. The attractive features of microwave systems for rural communications in developing countries are: independence from geographical features such as mountains and archipelagos etc.; the rapid system integration time and at low cost; robustness against disasters; and security such against human interference.
