Office of the Secretary-General
Dr Hamadoun Touré, ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun Touré was elected Secretary-General of ITU at the Plenipotentiary Conference in Antalya, Turkey, in November 2006 and took office on 1 January 2007.

Dr Touré is committed to make ITU an innovative, forward looking organization adapted to meeting the challenges created by the new ICT environment and to spearhead the Union towards implementing the resolutions of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). General Secretariat

The General Secretariat assists the Secretary-General providing high-quality and efficient services to the membership of the Union, notably in the Plenipotentiary Conference, the Council, TELECOM exhibitions and other conferences and meetings.


The General Secretariat manages the administrative and financial aspects of the Union's activities, information services, long-range strategic planning, and corporate functions (communications, legal advice, finance, personnel and common services).

  • Assist in bridging the digital divide and promote global connectivity through implementation of WSIS

  • Develop tools to safeguard networks
  • Continue to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Diseminate information and know-how of ICT
