Characteristics of optical transport network hierarchy equipment functional blocks

Recommendation ITU-T G.798 specifies both the components and the methodology that should be used in order to specify the optical transport network functionality of network elements; it does not specify individual optical transport network equipment. The components in this revision support ODU and client signal and server bit rates up to 100 Gbit/s. This includes the support of mapping and demapping of a multitude of client signals into carrier signals of various bit rates from STM1 as the SDH transport rate and 1GE for the data client rate, up to the transport of 100 Gbit/s Ethernet LAN signal rate.
