January

Identifying infrastructure gaps

We opened the year with key findings on the need for investments in the physical infrastructure for connectivity. Our Digital Infrastructure Investment Initiative, co-led with multilateral development banks, identified gaps amounting to USD 1.6 trillion globally, calling for unprecedented levels of public-private coordination and financing to connect everyone meaningfully by 2030.

We also rallied companies and organizations to democratize education and training in artificial intelligence (AI), with over 30 founding partners coming together to form our new AI Skills Coalition.

Our latest global price basket showed information and communication technology (ICT) services – especially the mobile kind – continuing to get more affordable, although cost benefits remained slower to reach low-income counties.

We finished January with a review of the preceding year for our Partner2Connect Digital Coalition, which had received 956 pledges, valued at USD 54.27 billion, from 452 entities across 146 countries worldwide by the end of 2024. Read on to find out how we did in 2025!
