Dear EGTI Members!

Thank you for having joined the 16th Meeting of EGTI – it was nice to see many of you in Geneva (hope you all returned safe and sound – those who attended online, thank you for your commitment to attend from the distance, we hope you can join in person next year!
We trust you found the ICT statistics week inspiring and useful for your work – starting from the WTIS celebrating its 20th anniversary, to the practitioners’ workshop on Friday.

What are the next steps?
>> Visit the EGTI 2024 event website where you can find presentation slides, archived webcast and photos https://www.itu.int/itu-d/meetings/egti2025/,
>> Consult the EGTI Summary (attached to this post, also available online here: https://www.itu.int/itu-d/meetings/egti2025/wp-content/uploads/sites/40/2025/10/EGTI-meeting-2025-Summary-Report.pdf)
>> Join the work of EGTI also in 2026!

What are the topics for future work?
Many items were flagged as potentially interesting for the 2026 work programme, including:
• Review of the ICT Development Index (IDI): extend the mandate of the joint EGTI-EGH subgroup;
• ICT sector greenhouse gas emission monitoring indicators: extend mandate of the subgroup;
• ICT Price baskets (experience sharing in the online forum);
• Satellite-based broadband connectivity
• Measurement of device affordability;
• Review the list of indicators collected in the WTI questionnaire;
• Experience sharing on sub-national data collection, use of GIS-based techniques;
• As well as topics from previous years, including the measurement of middle-mile connectivity and OTT use.

Please indicate your intention to join a discussion topic (or a subgroup) in one of the items listed for future work, by 24 October 2025. You can send a message to indicators@itu.int or a post in this forum.
Topics receiving sufficient support will be part of the 2026 Work Programme. To launch a subgroup, at least 10 engaged, active contributors are needed. A forum discussion topic serves to share experience and best practices in an online discussion topic.
You can of course also propose other topics of interest for the indicator development community; your initiatives will keep the forum as a virtual space to continue the discussions we just started in Geneva.

Where can I find further resources for capacity building?
During the practitioners workshop, there were a number of questions on capacity development. Please find here some useful resources:
>>You can learn more about the FREE online courses on ITU statistics offered on the ITU Academy:
https://www.itu.int/en/ITU-D/Statistics/Pages/capacitydev/default.aspx
>>Presentation slides from the recently held technical webinars on ICT statistics may provide additional insights (some of these were used also for the practitioners’ workshop):
https://www.itu.int/itu-d/sites/projectumc/2025/02/21/technical-webinars-on-ict-statistics/

Finally, let me also echo the congratulations for our outgoing chair, Mr. Bernard Banda:
Bernard, thank you for your excellent leadership of EGTI first as Vice Chair and as Chair during the post-Covid times, creating an atmosphere during the meetings that allowed us all to learning from one another in this global community, and reach major progress on the measurement agenda in a diversity of topics: including the IDI, price baskets or 5G indicators. We hope that you will stay an active member of EGTI and remain its ambassador in your future endeavors!

Also, congratulations for the incoming chair, Mr. Panayiotis Kyriakides:
Panos, thank you so much for your long-standing commitment to EGTI. It is nice to know that as it has in the past, this group can continue to benefit from your expertise in the coming years! Congratulations for your appointment as Chair by the BDT Director for the 2026-2029 period, we all wish you success!

On behalf of the ICT Data and Analytics Division of the ITU BDT, we thank you all again for your commitment, and look forward to meeting you soon!

Best regards,
Daniel
