This Technical Report describes a Framework for Accessible Virtual Worlds Interaction. It identifies and characterizes a set of “atomic interactions” – the core digital actions that users perform in immersive environments and virtual worlds, such as authentication, navigation, object manipulation, communication and consent management – and positions them as reusable, modular building blocks situated between low-level enabling services and high-level use cases. For each atomic interaction, the report sets out its definition and role, its design and implementation considerations, and the international standards and accessibility guidelines that apply to it. Atomic interactions depend on a variety of enabling services – such as identity management systems, real-time communication protocols and accessibility tools (e.g., screen readers, speech recognition) – to operate effectively. By modularizing these services, the Framework ensures that interaction logic remains consistent while allowing services to be updated, replaced or extended without disrupting the user experience. This separation of concerns supports scalability, technical flexibility and platform independence, and embeds accessibility and interoperability at the level of individual interactions as a necessary first step before recommendations are developed in a future document.
