This Recommendation specifies requirements and a reference architecture for an information retrieval system (IRS) that manages the digitized characteristics of cultural relics and artworks (CRA). It describes the processes to derive a characteristics classification from the physical CRA, preprocess CRA three-dimensional (3D) model data, annotate characteristic regions on the 3D model, and associate the annotated regions with corresponding physical CRA characteristics. It also specifies a classification approach and a data structure to support consistent storage, exchange and retrieval across organizations.
