New ITU-D Projects
ITU-D Projects:
A key vehicle to advance the implementation of the Kigali Action Plan
2024 has been an important year in the implementation of ITU-D projects. Our projects continue to be instrumental in implementing the mandate of the Telecommunication Development Bureau in the implementation of the Kigali Action Plan and the provision of technical assistance to ITU Member States.
In 2024 alone* we signed 41 agreements for new projects, project extensions, as well as voluntary contributions valuing close to CHF 30 million in areas such as digital skills, digital policy and regulation and digital government, amongst others. These projects were signed in partnership with national government agencies, bilateral cooperation entities, not-for-profit institutions, the private sector, and UN agencies.
During 2024 BDT continued to reinforce project management practices across all projects, with emphasis on strengthening project monitoring and project management practices across BDT, building capacity of BDT project managers, as well as on setting up information systems in support of the oversight and management of the project portfolio. Key initiatives included the launch of a new project implementation dashboard, providing ITU Member States with detailed insights into the project portfolio. Furthermore, BDT reinforced reporting to funding partners, which now takes place on a biannual basis, highlighting project progress and key performance indicators. This effort contributes to strengthening the engagement of funding partners, as well as to showcase the impact achieved through BDT projects.
More information about ITU-D´s projects is available at the BDT Projects website.
