Enabling space for innovative solutions to advance connectivity and accelerate digital transformation

The ITU’s Centre of Digital Innovation (I-CoDI) was launched (in Geneva) to challenge a “business-as-usual” approach to connectivity and promote a new, innovative way of “doing things differently”: getting off the beaten path, exploring new ideas to effectively use technology to achieve faster and everlasting results in the field of ICT for development and develop innovative solutions for connectivity.

Mission

I-CoDI aims to help countries and partners to advance connectivity and accelerate digital transformation via faster, more impactful and more cost-efficient interventions, bringing key stakeholders, regulators and policy makers together to experiment with new tools, processes and methods, and create original approaches to complex connectivity challenges.

At the 2014 World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-14), Member States mandated the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau to strengthen ITU membership capabilities to integrate ICT centric innovation in their national development agendas and promote a culture of innovation through enhanced partnership and a multi-stakeholder cooperation in a converged ICT ecosystem.

I-CoDI builds on the experience of the UAE’s Centre of Digital Innovation – CoDI

Building on the UAE’s best practices in result-based innovation, the I-CoDI agreement was signed by ITU and the TDRA on 29 June 2020.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has established the Centre of Digital Innovation (CoDI), a digital skills lab within the Digital Capability and Awareness Section in the UAE’s TDRA. The goal of CoDI was to promote digital transformation in the UAE Government, stimulate innovation and enhance demand for online government services.

Our Approach

We focus on systemic change rather than single point technological solutions to achieve sustainable impact and accelerate digital transformation.
This requires us to work together as “One-ITU” and combine our efforts and expertise engaging with key stakeholders, policy makers and partners to help prioritize design novel strategies, programs and interventions for connectivity.
