Developing digital skills in Gran Chaco
Indigenous community leaders from Gran Chaco answer the question: What is the importance of digital technology skills for young people in your community?
This video was recorded in the Argentine area of the Gran Chaco region.
The Gran Chaco region spans about 1.14 million square kilometres across South America, extending throughout areas of central and northern Argentina, southeastern Bolivia and western Paraguay. It is the largest dry forest in the world with a diverse population composed of a mosaic of identities and cultures, including indigenous communities.
But the region has limited access to essential services such as health and education, and the future of young people remains a pressing concern for the community.
The Youth Digital Inclusion project led by the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, in partnership with the local Gran Chaco Foundation, aims to promote ICT capacity development activities for young people from local communities in the Gran Chaco region.
Additionally, the project aims to support countries in the development of national strategies to develop young people’s digital skills and build an enabling environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.

About the project
Project number: 2RLA21021
Project title: Youth Digital Inclusion
Description: The main objective of this Project is to promote ICT capacity development activities (digital and soft skills) in benefit of youth from local communities in line with the needs of the ICT labor market/ecosystem, and support countries with the development of national strategies to develop young people’s digital skills and build an enabling environment for innovation and entrepreneurship. As a pilot, the Project will be implemented in Bolivia, Argentina and Paraguay.
The project will support the implementation of the Americas Regional Initiatives (AMS RIs) #4 and #5. One of the expected results of AMS RI#4 is to facilitate an enabling environment to ensure that everyone enjoys the full benefit of telecommunication/ICT access and use, through the implementation of local/national ICT projects to eliminate disparities in education at all levels and professional training. AMS RI#5 aims at assisting countries developing national and regional policies to boost the digital economy by promoting discussions on the topic. The project will also develop recommendations for the creation of innovation centers and educational projects that contribute to the ICT labor market/ecosystem and young entrepreneurship.
