Simulation in Haiti shows the potential of mobile-phone alerts in disasters
An early-warning simulation in March reached more than 50,000 people in Cap-Haïtien, a city on the north coast of Haiti, demonstrating how localized mobile alerts can help communities take early action in hurricanes, earthquakes, or other disasters. The simulation was part of an Early Warnings for All (EW4All) mission, which also achieved a milestone: the validation of Haiti’s roadmap for scaling up multi-hazard early warning systems. Cybersecurity is the focus of ITU’s first operational visit to Palau
ITU technical experts visited the Republic of Palau to provide the first in-country assistance to ITU’s newest Member State. Palau’s President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. and government officials welcomed the team. Palau requested the assistance to develop its cybersecurity capacity. The experts conducted a readiness assessment, which is the first step toward establishing a Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) in the country. Discover more

The growing demand for digital services and applications, including those related to education, employment, and public services, calls for fast, affordable, and reliable Internet connectivity. However, in many developing countries, broadband coverage remains largely confined to urban centres, with rural and remote communities often left without access.
