Driving digital empowerment in the Dominican Republic through the DTC Initiative
Under the Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) Initiative and in collaboration with the Centros Tecnológicos Comunitarios (CTC), which represents DTC in the Dominican Republic, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) through its Telecommunication Development Bureau and the Government of Norway contributed to empowering female prison inmates at the Rafey Rehabilitation and Correctional Center in Santiago de los Caballeros through a digital skills training programme. Four new ITU-D Study Group interim deliverables available
The work of the Study Groups supports the work of the ITU Development Sector (ITU-D) by exploring critical questions with expert research. The third meetings of ITU-D Study Groups 1 and 2 for the 2022-2025 study period took place in Geneva, Switzerland from 4 to 15 November 2024. The meetings reviewed the main conclusions of the April-May 2024 rapporteur group meetings, appointed new management team members, reviewed and approved interim deliverables, presented and discussed contributions, incoming liaison statements and administrative documents. Empowering the next generation of young digital innovators
When Maya Fakhfakh was doing her medical training as a young doctor in Tunisia, she encountered a lot of patients who were suffering from late-stage cancer. It was a wake-up call for her. “There are a lot of late-stage cancers that we can prevent,” she said.
