Fireside Chat – Creating a Circular Economy in the ICT Sector

Time: 14 November, 08:15–08:45
Venue: Standard Pavilion

Introduction
This 30-minute fireside chat will bring together experts to discuss how circularity principles can transform the ICT sector, reducing waste, extending product lifecycles, and improving resource efficiency. The conversation will explore how circular design, sustainable materials, repairability, and reuse can minimize environmental impacts while creating new economic and innovation opportunities.

The dialogue will also highlight the role of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) and traceability systems as key enablers of circularity—helping track materials, components, and carbon footprints across the value chain. Collaboration with international partners and other stakeholders will be showcased as essential for scaling global action and ensuring policy coherence.

1) emphasize the importance of circular design in reducing e-waste and supporting sustainable ICT production and consumption;
2) examine how Digital Prodcut Information Systems such as Digital Product Passports (DPPs) and related standards can facilitate transparency, traceability, and circular value chains;
3) highlight ongoing collaboration with UNECE, One Planet Network, and other initiatives to advance harmonized frameworks for circular ICT systems.
Discuss the roles of governments, industry, consumers, and international organizations in accelerating the shift toward a circular digital economy.
