Collection Methodology for Key Performance Indicators for Smart Sustainable Cities
Dimension Economy
Sub-Dimension Infrastructure
Category Electricity Supply
KPI Name Electricity System Outage Frequency
KPI No. EC: I: ES: 1C Type: Core Type: Structural
Definition / Average number of electrical interruptions per customer per year
Description
Rationale / The reliability of the electricity network is vital for long term economic
Interpretation / sustainability of a city.
Benchmarking System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) is used as a standard reliability
indicator by electric power utilities globally. SAIFI is the average number of
interruptions that a customer would experience over a specific time-period, and is
calculated as:
SAIFI = ∑ λ i N i N T {\displaystyle {\mbox{SAIFI}}={\frac {\sum {\lambda
_{i}N_{i}}}{N_{T}}}} SAIFI = Σ(Ni ) / NT
N i {\displaystyle N_{i}} Ni is the number of customers interrupted i {\displaystyle i}
and NT N T {\displaystyle N_{T}} is the total number of customers served.
Data should be reported for a 12 month period.
Methodology Calculate as:
Numerator: Sum of customers interrupted (customers).
Denominator: Total number of customers served (customers).
Unit Number
Data Sources / Data can be provided by the local electrical utility.
