Collection Methodology for Key Performance Indicators for Smart Sustainable Cities
Dimension Economy
Sub-Dimension Infrastructure
Category Electricity Supply
KPI Name Electricity System Outage Time
KPI No. EC: I: ES: 2C Type: Core Type: Structural
Definition / Average length of electrical interruptions
Description
Rationale / The reliability of the electricity network is vital for long term economic sustainability
Interpretation / of a city.
Benchmarking Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI) is used as a standard
reliability indicator by electric power utilities globally and indicates how long it will
take to restore electricity once an outage has occurred.
SAIFI = ∑ λ i N i N T {\displaystyle {\mbox{SAIFI}}={\frac {\sum {\lambda
_{i}N_{i}}}{N_{T}}}} CAIDI = Σ(λi * Ni ) /Σ (Ni)
where λ i {\displaystyle \lambda _{i}} λi is the restoration time and N i {\displaystyle
N_{i}} Ni is the number of customers interruptedi {\displaystyle i}.
Data should be reported for a 12 month period.
Methodology Calculate as:
Numerator: Sum of all customer interruption durations (mins).
Denominator: Total number of customer interruptions.
Unit Minutes
Data Sources / Data can be provided by the local electrical utility.
