Partnerships for Impact: Scaling up e-Health
There are more than 7 billion mobile telephone subscriptions in the world - in many places people are more
likely to have access to a mobile telephone than to clean water. Preventing disease is the most sustainable
way of improving population health. However, it can be challenging to reach people with the right information
to stop avoidable conditions developing.
Be He@lthy, Be Mobile (BHBM) is an initiative ITU runs with the World Health Organization (WHO). Since
2013, we have worked with governments to address a global challenge around improving disease prevention
and control by using mobile technology. The BHBM initiative now works with 11 countries from a range of
regions and income levels, tackling issues as diverse as
raising awareness on cervical cancer to helping people
quit tobacco use. In total, more than 3.5 million people
have received messages through the BHBM programme.
