Roadmap for Change

Our Journey – Changing how we do Business
Through decisive internal consultations at the beginning of 2019, we have adopted a new
innovative way of working which lays the foundation for impactful work that ensures timely and
efficient implementation of the Buenos Aires Action Plan.

BDT’s transformation is built on people-centred leadership and on Members’ needs. The journey
for change is a participatory and open consultative process and relies heavily on feedback and
                      discussion with our Members.

Our people-centric approach guides our efforts towards digital transformation through
meaningful connectivity - that means listening to the people we are trying to reach, without imposing
services on them, but finding out what they need to improve their lives. We want to offer services that
                give real value to people.

            Enriching dialogue with our Members

Listening to the needs of our Members is a priority for BDT. Creating a consultative process allows us to hear
their needs and helps us to streamline priorities and goals to accelerate BDT’s responsiveness to better match
            Members’ wishes.

In search of new, transparent and innovative ways to communicate and listen the needs and wants of our
Members, the 24 Telecommunications Development Advisory Group (TDAG) meeting featured “breakout”
                            th
            group discussions.

Unifying Digital Transformation: World Telecommunication Development Conference
                                                8-19 November 2021
Looking ahead, in 2020 we will start in earnest on preparations for the World Telecommunication
Development Conference WTDC-21, which we are delighted will be hosted by the Government of Ethiopia.
The country is a “hub” of opportunities for digital transformation and we are excited to hold the event in a
country that has embarked on a comprehensive set of reforms, which cut across political, economic and social
              areas.

During our preparations, BDT, through open dialogue with
Members, will seek to ensure WTDC meets the needs of our
Members, offers guidance for impact and sets strategies and
objectives for the development of telecommunication/ICTs
that address the digital era in which we live.

Internal Transformation - Unleashing Internal Talent
To deliver successfully, we have adjusted how we work operationally, including in our regional offices.
Building a BDT “Fit4Purpose” means putting our people front and centre by enhancing talent management,
strengthening performance and fostering innovation across our staff. It is important that we better prepare,
empower and give our staff the tools and resources they need in order to deliver with impact for meaningful
            connectivity.
