SG5RG-AFR Preparatory Workshop Series on ITU-T SG5 Participation

Introduction

In preparation for the ITU-T Study Group 5 Regional Group for Africa (SG5RG-AFR) meeting, to be held on 19–22 May 2026 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, a series of preparatory workshops is being organized to support regional engagement and capacity building. These workshops aim to strengthen understanding of SG5 activities, promote African priorities, and support effective participation in SG5RG-AFR and SG5 meetings.

Workshop 1: Overview of SG5 work programme and African priority topics

Online, 24 March 2026, 10h00-11h30 CET

This workshop will provide an introduction to the work of ITU-T Study Group 5, including its structure, Questions, ongoing work items and key deliverables. It will present the priority topics identified by the SG5 Regional Group for Africa (SG5RG-AFR) and highlight areas where contributions from African Member States, Sector Members, Associates and academia are encouraged. The session aims to support participants from the African region in understanding how to engage in SG5 activities and how regional priorities can be reflected in SG5 work.


Workshop 2: Guidance on preparing contributions for SG5RG-AFR and subsequent SG5 meetings

Online, 14 April 2026, 10h00-11h30 CEST

​​This practical workshop will provide step-by-step guidance on the preparation of contributions, including the structure and format of ITU-T documents, types of contributions, submission procedures and deadlines. It will support delegates from the African region in developing draft inputs aligned with SG5 Questions and SG5RG-AFR priorities, with a view to their consideration at the SG5RG-AFR meeting and, where appropriate, subsequent submission to SG5.
