​Dr Marko Jagodič was a world-renowned expert in the field of telecommunications and particularly well known for his achievements in the digitalization of telephone exchanges and transmission systems. With his research, development and educational work at Iskra, Universities in Ljubljana and Maribor, and ITU, he made decisive contributions to the establishment of Slovenia as an important player in the development of future-oriented information and communication technologies. 

​Dr Jagodič also contributed significantly to the process of reorganizing ITU to support more active participation of developing countries in the development of global standards and the global management of radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits.​ As a founding Member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Telecommunications Development, he played a key role in the creation of the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector. 

In 2018, on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Dr Jagodič ​was presented with an award recognizing his 50-year contribution to ITU. ​
