Shailendra Hajela

S Hajela.pngShailendra Kumar Hajela, B.E. (IIT-R, India) and Dr. Ing. (TU-Ilmenau, Germany) served the Indian Telecommunication Administration for over 33 years and contributed to development of Telecom technology policy, standardization, and induction of new technologies, including rural telecommunication, digital mobile technology and computerized information and network management systems. He served the ITU for over ten years in the Maintenance & Management Project in Nepal and subsequently as ITU Area-Representative for West & South Asia and further on as Coordinator of the ITU Regional Office for Asia-Pacific Region in Bangkok. He initiated the establishment of 'South Asian Telecom Regulators' Council" as the institutional mechanism for harmonizing regulatory policies at the sub-regional level and coordinated with APT to ensure its sustained functioning under its auspices. On retirement from ITU, he served the TRAI as honorary Senior Consultant for over 8 years during its formative years. He has been Consultant to UNDP, UNESCAP, ITU, APT, WB, ADB, Government of India and Private sector industry. He has authored over 50 technical papers. He is a Fellow of IE (India), Fellow of IETE (India), and Sr. Life Member of IEEE Inc. (USA). He is a founder member and currently the Chairman of ITU-APT Foundation of India, which is a sector member of ITU-D and ITU-T.
