Ken Krechmer

kenpicture2008.jpgKen Krechmer (krechmer@csrstds.com) received first prize in the 2012 IEC Challenge standards paper competition.  In 2009 he taught at the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, USA a three credit unit graduate engineering course on the theory of standards. He was Program Chair of the Standards and Innovation in Information Technology (SIIT) conference in 2001 (Boulder, CO), 2003 (Delft, Netherlands) and 2007 (Calgary, Canada) and co-Program Chair of SIIT 2009 (Tokyo, Japan) and 2011 (Berlin, Germany).  In 2006 he received a joint second prize in the IEC Centenary Challenge paper competition. In 1995 and 2000 he won first prize at the World Standards Day paper competition. From 1990 to 2002 he was the founding technical editor of Communications Standards Review, technical journals reporting on standards work-in-progress in the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).  He has also been secretary of TIA TR-29 (facsimile standards) 1990-1995 and a US delegate to ITU-T Study Group 8 (fax), 14 (previous modem standards), 15 (xDSL) and 16 (modem, video, conferencing) meetings.  He consulted on standardization strategies 1980 - 2000 for clients including: France Telecom, British Telecom, NEC, Dialogic, Intel, Ascend Communications and Pacific Telesis.  He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Member of The Society for Standards Professionals.
