
Dr. Tom Voege joined the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) as Road and Traffic Safety Expert in early 2013. His current duty station is Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he is advising the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Transport on various transport policy issues and technical issues relating to the implementation and deployment of ITS technologies as part of a UNDP Project on Sustainable Road and Transport Management. He holds a PhD in Transportation Engineering and an MSc in Transportation Planning and Engineering from the University of Southampton. He has extensive experience in international projects with temporary assignments in countries including Saudi Arabia, China, Burundi, and Tanzania. He has worked permanently for companies and organisations both in the public and the private sector, covering research and development as well as technical advisory and consultancy, in Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Germany.
Previous missions included assignments as transport policy advisor at the negotiations of the Common Market Protocol of the East African Community and as EC-TAIEX expert advising various Turkish Ministries on different transport policy issues.
