John Smiciklas is currently Director, Energy and Environment for Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA Canada) and leads the effort for the BOMA BEST sustainable building certification program. John’s prior experience includes positons as Consultant, International Telecommunication Union and UN Development Program; Principal, Sustainability, MJRD Assessment Inc.; Director, Corporate Responsibility Programs, BlackBerry; and Manager, Sustainable Business Practice, PwC. John holds a B.A.Sc., Engineering from the University of Toronto. John developed and implemented the verification program for ISO 37120, (Sustainable development of communities - Indicators for city services and quality of life); is a member of the Canadian committees for ISO 9001 and ISO standards group for Climate Change; is a qualified ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 auditor and the author of a number of UN papers including Toolkit on Environmental Sustainability for the ICT sector and Focus Group on Smart Sustainable Cities – Smart Buildings.
