Elected in 2010 for the Reading West constituency Alok has served as a member of the Commons Science and Technology select committee, a Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Treasury and since 2012 as a Conservative Party Vice Chairman. He is also a member of the Commons Treasury Select Committee and Co-Chairman of Conservative Friends of India.
Prior to entering Parliament, Alok qualified as a chartered accountant with what is now PWC, and then worked for 16 years in senior roles in banking, first with the Japanese firm Nikko Securities and then the Nordic bank SE Banken, advising international corporates and private equity firms on mergers, acquisitions, takeovers, stock exchange listings and restructurings.
